After more than a year of no updates, it is back... Version 1.5 of the Website of Titus already has plenty of new content! I decided to not wait until I had finished putting the site together to start writing things.
I have big ideas in mind for version 2.0, but there are a number of things I'd like to say in the meantime, so I need some kind of actual blog on which to post them. The choices were either LiveJournal or to use my original Postnuke site. Since I like having more control, and don't mind the challenge of figuring out my own thing, I decided against LiveJournal. The problem with just using my old site was that there were a number of limitations that made using it very difficult. Some of that had to do with it being designed for a different reason than what I want to use it for now.
The plan was for me to quickly upgrade my old site to get the features of the latest PostNuke version, and to fix some of the things that made it hard to work with. Well, the update screwed up some things, and a number of modules I was using no longer worked. Since, on top of this, I wanted the site to work a little better for my current usage reasons, I decided to "quickly throw a new site together" with the same software since the learning curve would be so low. This would just be an intermediate version of the site so I could start posting stuff quickly.
Well, that turned into five weeks of constant work. I had almost all of the major functionality done after the first two weeks, but, of course, my perfectionism required a lot more fine tuning before I was willing to make it public. There are a lot of things I do not like about this software, and a lot of things I plan to continue to tweak, but it is far enough along that I don't feel embarassed for people to look at it. I'll continue to tweak this site a little bit, and provide updates to those who are registered, but I'm hoping that most of my website development time can go into version 2.0. I plan to simultaneously develop prototypes of a new site using several different open source CMS's and see what will work best for my next site overhaul.
Also, while this site is currently "live" and taking registrations, I still need to organize my contact information (which is an extremely huge mess), and start sending out emails to people advertising the reemergence of my site. That will slowly happen over the next month or so.
Soon, I'd like to put a Website FAQ together to explain the quirks of this site, and what my future plans are to fix everything. In the meantime, if there is anything that is confusing, or any errors or any other problems that you experience with this site, please let me know, and I'll try to address them. |
